The government has begun disbursing the new child subsidy for low-income families. The support is 60 euros per month per child. In the first month, 14 million euros will be paid to 232,365 children.
Families are eligible for unemployment benefits, emergency assistance or equalization supplement, single parents with a gross monthly income of less than 2,000 euros, and social welfare recipients with children.
The child allowance for low-income families is paid out.
The transfer of the child allowance is automatic until the end of 2024, as stated in a release. So, no application is necessary for it. The transfers will appear on the recipient’s account under the subject “Antiteuerung Kinderzuschuss” and will be instructed by the federal accounting agency. The only exception is the benefit for recipients of social assistance, which the provinces pay. The federal payments are made with a time lag – in September for July, October for August, and so on – because each case’s entitlement is reassessed.
In addition, social assistance recipients (including those without children) receive a monthly subsidy of 60 euros until the end of 2023.
